As the sole owner of the Exclusive Family Law Office known as Attorney Marilyn D. York, Inc., Marilyn’s firm specializes in representing men in their divorce, custody and all family law battles. Marilyn is a certified Family Law Specialist by the Nevada State Bar. After 3 years of working for other law firms, including two very elite Beverly Hills family law firms to the Stars, Marilyn started her own firm in 2001 with just one part-time employee. Today, 17 years later, her firm has 5 attorneys, 3 paralegals, and 3 business staff employees, and is the largest exclusive family law firm in Northern Nevada.

Marilyn has been a member of the California Bar since 1998 and the Nevada Bar since 1999. She graduated from the accelerated two-year SCALE program at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles when she was just 22 years old; started college at UNR when she was 16; and, graduated with her BA in English from UNR, when she was 20. While going to college full time and working for a local law firm, she obtained her paralegal certification on weekends UNR when she was 17. She worked locally as a paralegal in the area of family law throughout college.

Marilyn chose her career because of her passion for families, children and relationships. Marilyn focuses on representing men because they are crucial to the upbringing of their children and yet they are disadvantaged, disfavored and under-represented in family court. Despite the emphasis of her practice, Marilyn has deep compassion for all “underdogs” including women and children in need. She fulfills that passion through her work as Board President for the local charity and transition house for homeless young women, Nevada Youth Empowerment Project, or NYEP. In the past several years, Marilyn and her firm have donated tens of thousands of dollars to the following worthy local non-profits: NYEP, Good Shepherd Clothing Shelter, Children’s Cabinet, Rotary, the Discovery Museum, and the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.

Marilyn believes that charity takes more than donations, and she personally handles up to four pro bono family law cases at any given time, often for the disabled.

Marilyn was featured as a “Rising Star” in the National Super Lawyers publication in 2008 and a Nevada Top 20 Under 40 Award recipient in 2010. Marilyn is also a proud member of the Prospectors Club. Marilyn regularly speaks publicly, and makes local and sometimes National radio and television appearances. She was featured in the box office film Divorce Inc., recently made an appearance on Tosh.O, and has been a featured expert in several nationally published books on the topic of Divorce.
