The University of Nevada Reno Collegiate Chapter of the American Marketing Association has started off strong this semester. They have had four successful meetings, which have included a marketing professional speaker and a resume-writing workshop.

They have also completed one fundraiser thus far this semester. Funds were raised by distributing flyers for four Caughlin Ranch politicians.

The current fund raiser involves collecting used cell phones and ink cartridges. All of the funds raised will help send AMA students to the National Convention held in New Orleans this coming spring.

In addition to working on fundraising, the members have also completed a volunteer activity. They wrote letters for Up til’ Dawn, which is a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Each member addressed 10 letters to personal family and friends asking for donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Later in the spring, these members will enjoy an event to celebrate their efforts.

The Collegiate Chapter has seen a dramatic increase in attendance to their meetings this semester. Membership has increased by 20% and involvement from all the members has been exceptional. With the increase in membership the Collegiate Chapter has implemented various committees to complete the necessary semester duties, such as volunteering, fundraising, and case competition.

The case competition will be the main focus for the Collegiate Chapter throughout the next couple of months.

They are working diligently to create an exceptional Integrated Marketing Communication Plan. This plan is the main focus of the entire case and the Collegiate Chapter will continue their work until the submission date of December 15th.

The topic for the 2007 Case Competition is revitalizing New Orleans, with a target market of 18-30 year olds and the hope to again make New Orleans the fun, exciting, and popular place to visit. Collegiate members are online casino meeting once a week to collect ideas and research. The resulting ideas and research has led the students to begin writing the initial components of the case. They hope that all their hard work and guidance from their advisor, Mary Groves will provide a great chance to be in the top eight at the National Convention.

As previously mentioned, the current fundraiser is through the collection of used cell phone and ink cartridges. The VP of Communications is heading this committee to collect the used cell phones and inkjet cartridges from UNR patrons and local businesses. Their goal is to raise $1,000 by the February of 2007.

You too can help the Collegiate Chapter raise funds by donating your old cell phones and inkjet cartridges. If you would like to help please contact either Isabella Schambeck at (831) 588-4960 or thebella_2@yahoo.com, or Tonya Heinrich at (775) 787-7156 or luv2trn3@sbcglobal.net.
